Farnsworth's Untitled(spine) has an understated elegance, created by the balanced combining of materials. A tall, sinuous metal armature supports a column of clear glass lampshades with water cascading through them, carried to the top by an appropriately yucky amber hose. The glass cylinders are carefully articulated, looking like ampules. The water falls differently through each one, sometimes spreading out in sheets and in places shooting like from a spout. The scuzzy basin at the bottom is a good touch, with the water collecting in it slightly yellowish. A small flaw is the professional-looking perfection of the steel support, which clashes somewhat with the tainted patina of the other elements.
